olympic war is over !

Frankly I feel damm comforted that this kind of masquerade finally ended. When Pierre de Coubertin revived the olympics game in the past century he mentionned that "l'important c'est de participer" (the essential is to contribute). Where was the sport spirit in this war between china and America during the last weeks?
Why must olympic games have a "winner" ? And why is the number of gold medals is more important then the total amount of medals ? Does it means that a silver or a bronze is nothing ?
As I am not from USA I cannot be suspected to be jealous from the Chinese results, so I want to say that these olympics games were a shame for our civilisations.
Let's see now the paralympics games and we will maybe know wich of those big countries give a chance to their disabled.
Olympic "games" means that people come here to play sport not to kill their challengers.
I was really shocked to hear people whistle the challengers of their national teams, or the french delegation during the opening ceremony.
I wish that the London 2012 will find again this noble spirit of sport.
PS : please forgive my english

Becuz gold means you are NO.1 in the world, that's why gold means more than a silver or a bronze. you won't consider phelps the greatest olympian of all time, if he won 8 bronzes instead of 8 golds, will you?
"As I am not from USA I cannot be suspected to be jealous from the Chinese results, so I want to say that these olympics games were a shame for our civilisations."
you could be jealous of china even you are not an american. and lighten up, dude, it happens when 2 rival teams play each other, this is what sports fans like us want to see, fierce but fair competitions, and bragging rights!
we lost the gold medal war to china, let's just be a good sport and congratulate the winner... can't wait to see we beat china next time!
from the tone of your comment, gdomi, you are just another china hater on expat9.

Yes I will ! only if nobody has done better than him before. It is a great performance to play into 8 sports and be on the podium. Of course it is greater if man steps on the highest each time.
I think that this spirit of "winner" is the bad size of humanity, that's what make supporters fight during or after a match, sometimes to death.
By the way if you consider the population of the differents countries I am sorry to tell you that Jamaica is far away the best of competition with 6 gold medals...and only 2 700 000 inhabitants.
So you see how stupid is all this.
And to finish I can assure you that I am not another China "hater". After 18 months in this country I NEVER met any "Lao wai" here or been in their bars to meet them. I deeply love this country and all my chinese friends, I just cannot stand any kind of fanaticism : politic, religious or simply sportive.

i agree with you on this, gold medal count should be indexed to the population count.
i think you are the fanatic to be so pissed about chinese getting excited for the gold medal race, take a chill pill dude, it's only sports!!!
if there is no passion in sports, would you still want to see the match? olympic spirit is about participation, yes, it's also about overcoming the human limits to be the best in the world, faster, higher, stronger!!!!
it's better for human being to be fanatic on the sporting field than in the war zone, don't you agree?
"it's better for human being
"it's better for human being to be fanatic on the sporting field than in the war zone, don't you agree?"
Completly !!
That would be a great idea to put Mr Poutine and Mr Saakachvili on a boxing ring to solve their problems, instead of killing civil people..
and put our stupid ass
and put our stupid ass president head to head with osama, instead of killing all those innocent iraqis and afghans and our brain washed GIs...
Yes! Yes! I totally
Yes! Yes! I totally agree..
I'm here for a good time..not a long time!
I think you'll be quiet if
I think you'll be quiet if the US "won" cuz it is supposed to be the NO.1 all the time...but China just kicked everybody's ass, surprisingly! no wonder you don't feel good.
ps: The Olympic Games is definitely warfare... realized that after studying lesson 6 of NCE4 in high school..

Why would he want the USA to win? He is not from there. He is just saying he is glad that the games are over. And why do some here call him a "china hater"? He would not be residing there if he hated China , now would he? He has made some good points in his postings though.
Personally, I think that everyone who participated in the Olympics is a winner regardless of winning a medal or not. Just to be able to represent one's country is an achievement.
And I would like to congratulate China for a fine Olympics!! Well done!!! :)))
Let’s see if I can put all
Let’s see if I can put all of this into perspective. First of all, I am happy to see that all of the hype and craziness of the games is finished. Perhaps now, life here can return to something that resembles normality. If one wants to judge any country’s success at the games by the number of medals won, be it either gold medals or total medals, that is their prerogative; but consider this; the Chinese Olympic team was, by far, the largest in the games. They fielded 6 hundred and something athletes, as opposed to the second largest contingent, the US, whose team numbered 3 hundred and something. Something to consider; especially since there are still some unanswered questions such as to the eligibility of all of the girls on the Chinese gymnastic team. I think that the “western” world will know the results of this issue before we here in China dig out the final word.
I agree with sixstringronnie. ALL of the athletes, regardless of how they placed in their individual events deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication. What an incredible honor it is to represent your home country on the world stage; even if it is in an event as silly as “synchronized swimming”, or “rhythmic gymnastics”, or BMX (what’s next, skateboarding?), or the “equestrian events” (in which the horses are the real performers). IT DOESN’T MATTER! All of those who participated in the games, with the obvious exception, of course, of a couple of ass****s like the Cuban karate guy who kicked a referee in the face because he didn’t agree with his call, or the European wrestler who refused to accept his bronze medal because he though he deserved gold, deserve the utmost admiration.
Historically, the focus of the Olympic Games is supposed to be on the athletes, not on the city or country who happens to be the host of the events. All in all, I think that China put on a hell of a good show.

Oh now sfkid. We all know
Oh now sfkid. We all know you are a Chinese! No American have such a bad grammar!
Example; 'cant wait to see we beat china next time'. Im sorry, no American will speak this way. I think you like to cause a trouble yes?
Oh the grammar police can't
Oh the grammar police can't come soon enough...
@orrin: fyi, the US team had 596 members. So the Chinese squad wasn't by far the largest...Also consider that the host nation gets a free pass on qualify, their squad will be larger than the average year (exhibit A: China Men's soccer team).
But I think that they should throw out all "sports" that are based on judge's scores.
The number of team members
The number of team members that I posted came from the numbers that were stated by the TV commentators during the opening ceremony. I stand corrected on that point. I agree with you 100% about "sports" in which winners are decided by some officials' subjective, and often biased, opinions.

marylin, i know my grammar
marylin, i know my grammar is pretty bad, but yours is worse. "No American have such a bad grammar!""a" bad grammar? "you like to cause a trouble." "a" troube?
and, you wanna place a bet on my nationality here on this forum?
on the point of the
on the point of the officiating of sporting events, i don't know we could do without them anytime soon. it's frustrating to watch.
just look at NBA, the officiating is a joke! the league still doesn't want to admit it, even after a crooked referee got convicted. maybe all the NBA games are rigged?
And now we have a new sport,
And now we have a new sport, "Expat 9 insult tag team verbal wrestling". A most enjoyable read. So for my take on it - it was a well done thing, and congratulations to all who made it happen.
Whose winning the Expat 9 gold ?
@sfkid... please clarify
@sfkid... please clarify your tone and intentions when speaking of "one of those Chinese." Is it not true that many of us from abroad try to speak Mandarin/Cantonese/other dialects to impress people [or to at least assuage our in-laws]? By the way, without knowing the grammarian who drew your ire, you may have missed the humor in the botched grammar... perhaps the joke was how bad the grammar was... Even if it was unintentional, it was "chuckleable."
"you may have missed the
"you may have missed the humor in the botched grammar"? wow, how did you figure that out? but you could be right, panda. if this is the case, then i think it's funny.
"by the way, without knowing the grammarian who drew your ire". what actually drew my ire was that she's accusing me of lying about being an american, it's an insult to my integrity, don't you think?
english is not my native language, so my writing skill is poor, nonetheless, i am a proud american!
by the way, you may have missed my brand of humor in mentioning "one of those chinese", the joke is about how snobby people like you and marylin are, lots of truth to it even though it's not politically correct to say it out loud.
panda, i hope you find it "chuckleabe", also!
your manners are
your manners are lacking
@sfkid,
Your writing is fine, but your manners are lacking. I think you left them somewhere near the shift keys you meant to use when typing sentences that should have capital letters. either that or you are the next e.e. cummings.
As for snobbishness, I think you have cornered the market. You missed the chance to tone the rhetoric of your overcharged statements and bit the e-hand of the one who was trying to help--me. You know the next line... if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Chill, dude.
Seriously, your repeated use of "ad hominem" attacks dsicredits your statements.
panda, sometimes truth is
panda, sometimes truth is hard to swallow, maybe that's why you thought my statement is not nice to your ears...

i made a huge mistake here!
gdomi is absolutely not a china hater!
he PMed me last time supporting my point of views on the post "i can't stand it anymore!" but i totally forgot his user ID.
man, i made a fool out of myself.
gdomi, i sincerely apologize to you, and pls forgive me for calling you a china hater. i am so ashamed of myself for making this kind of comment on you.
I was away since a few days
I was away since a few days (visiting northern China) and my surprise is really big to see those 20 new posts. I think that the debate was closed just after your first post (BTW you clarified very well the meaning of my topic). What happened then is like the "side effects" of a medicine. but this makes me laugh, I think that there is nothing really bad about this.
to "put more gas on the fire" I will add the following statistic :
European Union won : 63 gold medals, 77 silver, 73 bronze the total is 213 medals. Far away before China and USA...
Of course this has no signification for me.
Orrin when you say : " I agree with sixstringronnie. ALL of the athletes, regardless of how they placed in their individual events deserve to be recognized for their hard work and dedication. What an incredible honor it is to represent your home country on the world stage;" It is exactly what I tried to formulate with my poor english, so Thanks a lot man.
Sorry I forgot to say that I
Sorry I forgot to say that I was answering to Sixstringronnie who seems to be a great smart fellow..
Now that the Olympics are
Now that the Olympics are over, it's really a shame that we need to wait another four years for such Opera both in the athletic venues and here online. Gdomi, you really started something here. I guess you really need to find everyone more topics to "discuss" for the next three years and three hundred fifty or so more days! Cheers.
i learned my lesson here, my
i learned my lesson here, my emotion got the best of me. sorry, gdomi. no more baseless verbal personal attack from me this point on.
btw, i agree that jamaica should be the true NO.1. usain bolt and michael phelps both are the best olympians ever.
It looks like there will be
It looks like there will be at least one new resident athletic director at the reeducation camp.
