Not the expert at this but offer my two cent.
Go to Hong Kong and transfer your license to HK international license. Then use HK license to get Chinese license as China recognize licenses from HK and Taiwan.

Anyone know how much is the international driving license fee? I have few friends went to take the written test in Zhuhai and i cost few hundreds of RMB only.

1) was the written test in English or Chinese.

2) where in Macau, when it's said transfer, does that mean your country of origin is scap, or should the description be "acquire a HK or Macau lincense, using one's country of origin license". Can this be done even if you are not a resident of HK or Macau ?

There are earlier posts on this. I was contemplating going to Guangzhou soon to do one of the RMB4000+ jobs (see A to Z). The above alternatives sound quite a bit cheaper and easier.

It will cost you total about

It will cost you total about 320RMB to get the licence.

You will need

- Your local residence permit
- Your passport translated and notary
- Your overseas lcence and notary
- Copies of the above
- 2 photos with white background

Bring all these to Jingding test centre and they will register you. Then attend a full day lesson (usually 11th or 21st of the month). After the lesson, they will stamp yoru receipt. With the stamped receipt, you can book your test date online. You need to score 90 or more out of 100 questions. If you pass, you can go to counter 2 to collect your licence that is valid for 6 years. Next renewal is for 10 years and next renewal forever.

Non-Chinese readers need not apply.

Ok, let me dispel some

Ok, let me dispel some myths.

1. With Macau, Hong Kong or any other licence, you need to take the written test.

2. China does not recognise and international licence issued by your AA so don't waste your money there.

3. If you don't read Chinese, get a driver or take taxi.

I went thru Lisa and I now have a license. This is NOT a paid advert! She does a good job and is very thorough. I've been driving in China for 9 months already.

I've gone through Lisa after reading encouraging posts on this forum. However, I cant help but voice out my frustration. Its been 40 days to date and I have no clue when it's gonna get done. The reason I was given for the delay is the Olympics (not sure how that makes any sense).

I'm being patient and understanding but I may consider simply cancelling if I dont get a firm commitment of delivery.

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if it was because of the Olympics... be patient a few more days :)

Will do. I'm inclined on doing just that. I generally dont get too hard on things.

So in all seriousness that means...well...pretty much everyone.

I went through Lisa too and

I went through Lisa too and it was a totally painless experience. All I had to provide were copies of my US license and passport plus a few photos. No lines, no forms, no hassles. She delivered exactly what she claimed she would deliver and in a reasonable amount of time although I understand that the waiting period can vary depending on the authorities she has to deal with. In China things often end up being more complicated than what you are originally told, so I found the whole experience with Lisa to be highly satisfactory.

This is encouraging, Nanuet

This is encouraging, Nanuet Bill.

Quite frankly, I am still looking forward to having mine finished despite the frustration I am feeling. I generally keep a broad view in such matters taking into account all possible reasons that are out of hand (authorities, Olympics, etc..) and if the "imperfection in the system" chanced upon mine, I understand it can be anybody else.

Last week, a total of 18 licenses were released. Yesterday, another 10. This morning, I have been told to wait until this Friday.

Go! Go! Lisa Go! I'm cheering for you!
